these two are growing up way too fast! i love nothing more than when they come bounding through the door after school, arm in arm yelling "hi mom" and talking a 1,000 miles a minute. i love to just sit back and take it all in. they laugh more than any two people i know. couldn't have asked to move next door to a better friend for Ash. these two are are inseparable. they share one mind, i swear. i coaxed them into playing outside with me and my camera for a few minutes today. couldn't get enough of the blue skies and sunshine. being with these two made my day.

we ended up here and wished we would have started here with this sweet old truck.
may have to drag them back out tomorrow and shoot around here :)

Gosh, ~~Merry Christmas~~? and Happy New Year! Hoping everyone had a great Christmas.
sorry to friends and family near and far... didn't get a christmas card out again this year :(
know you were thought of and missed.
we spent the last two days up with my sister and her family at the Roper cabin. it was heaven to say the least.
uncle Lane was so great to make their sledding day so fun. i enjoyed very much watching the cousins play. need more days like this one.

it's moments like this one that i shared with missy mae that i so cherish. in the middle of her journey with cancer... she finds beauty and joy. she has this way of celebrating each crossroad in such an adventurous way.
before chemo took the rest of her hair she really wanted to do Pink in a way i've never seen it done.
this is what i love about her... turning everything into something beautiful...
her gloves, her coat, her determination to beat cancer... comes from her grandmother. those items were hers. she wore them in her time and she too beat cancer. this post is for Jubalen and her grandmother. women of strength and courage.

just to see her smile. let's get one thing straight. i am not a cat person. at all. maybe a kitten person? but definitely not a CAT person. our youngest often gets left behind, can't find a friend to play with, not big enough to stay up late...it's always something.
passing by wal-mart one day i see a lady giving away free kittens. did an immediate u-turn and said, "i will take two please"... two? i couldn't stand to take a brother and not have a sibling to keep it company. so, just to see my little one smile. i am now the proud owner of a happy first grader and two crazy kittens. actually, the girl is crazy and the brother is calm and sweet. hmmm. true to life?

we decided together to document her journey through cancer. it's a huge chapter in her life and one that she will turn the pages from someday and see a remarkable woman who beat this ugly disease in such a determined and graceful way. i'm in awe of her daily. she's been so strong since the day she was dealt this trial. she has been nothing but positive and has a continuous smile on her face. she is such a beautiful example of strength and determination. two surgeries down, the start of chemo, radiation, more surgery to come and the words i still hear her say, "Bring it". love this girl. big. huge. thank you to Jess for helping me shoot these images. in your debt good friend.

la dolce vita

I was invited recently to celebrate lunch with a good friend on her birthday at an Italian restaurant called La Dolce Vita. I asked her what it meant. She replied, "the sweet life".
that's what comes to mind today. A Sweet Life.
I'm very grateful for dear friends and family. My life has been richly blessed with amazing people. Much more than I deserve.
I hope your thanksgiving is filled with lots of love, family, friends and fun filled memories.

on a side note:
when my sister comes to visit there is a lot of music and a lot of dancing... there is a dance off going in the kitchen with my girls and their aunt as i post this. so fun.

we were just getting a kick out of jimmer's moves. check it out. fun to watch. it'll bring a smile to your face for sure.

Shannon Sewell, a favorite photographer of mine (extremely creative and just as kind as she is talented) posted a recent article for photographers...she gave some wise advice about using what you have and making great images without having to run out and buy expensive equipment (not that those don't help)...anyhow; i love that she gives back to the photo community. she's so good about sharing her knowledge and lending a hand where she can. she inspires us all to reach a little higher.

we survived. the drive that is. there's something to be said for that. i don't sit still very well. at all actually.

Most of us are aware that October is Breast Cancer awareness month. There are races and fundraisers... pink merchandise to purchase to support the research of cancer.
Well, it hit home this time. I found out not too long ago that one of my dearest friends in this world was diagnosed with breast cancer. She means the world to me. She is my friend, my second shooter, my saving-grace, my saver's shopper, my mercedes-driving-beautiful lady. I was devastated when she delivered the news. She is strong. She is a fighter and I know she will be Just fine. I am incredibly thankful for great medical care. Im thankful for research and early detection.
In honor of my sweet friend, I want to share a link with you. Please help spread the word about breast cancer awareness. Be informed. Help where you can.

one sunday, Kade(Cade sp?) walks up to me in church as says,

Jess from byjess.com asked me to second shoot with her last week up at Sundance. Um it took me all of about two seconds to say yes! First because it's Jess! she's my friend and my mentor and I think she's pretty much the best photographer out there and second because it's SUNDANCE...i've been in love with this place for a very, very long time.
it's God's country.
so beautiful. a must see.

He pitched. she played volleyball. and together they have created one amazing athletic, fun, blonde family!
on sunday afternoons we always look for the boys to come walking down the street with a football in hand and they are so good to stop by and play catch with K and I.

i am quickly becoming a fan of the Zac Brown Band. i really have no knowledge of this band (i'm pretty much a music and a cross-fit mis-fit) but what i do know is that i keep coming back to them over and over again. my first favorite of their music is a song called "Toes" now i dream about this song, "Knee Deep". Someday, i want to be in clear blue water somewhere :) for now... this keeps me happy. enjoy:)

Tyler and Kelsie were so, so much fun to photograph. I could have spent the entire afternoon with them. they both graduated from AF High this year and both are incredible individuals who will definitely make this world a better place. and how can you not with the last name of Flinders?!!
Hoping they both might share that name some day? (yikes, can i say that online?) i seriously can't get enough of these youth. they are so amazing and i learn so much from each and everyone of them.
and the bonus was that we were able to work some Baseball, yup, BASEBALL into this shoot:))

love, love, love summer... the front door is wide open and the kids run in and out all day and its fantastic:) dirty floors and grass in the carpets aren't as fantastic but hey, can't complain when they come in beet red with huge smiles on their faces. Between the trampoline, the white-trash pool that's in the garden (um yeah...came home from youth conference to a 15ft pool in the garden??) tents in the backyard, and fishing. we are having a blast.

she's always a delight to be around. she's kind and extremely generous of her time and her things.
we were talking today about how nice it would be to own a small farm. we would have a few horses, some chickens, a cow or two, small goats and some sheep. and we can't forget the pond where the ducks will live...oh, and a dog that doesn't run away. and if you asked my middle two daughters they would insist on having a cat. and while we are at it, we better throw in a john deer for their dad. well, that would be my wish. for my girls. that someday their dreams will come true. for now, we are lucky to have sweet friends who share with us.

These two were a lot of fun. We enjoyed some funny moments watching Toby try to gently hold Heather's sweet face. He kept sweeping up her earring in his hands and it was poking her in the head...Poor Heather kept saying, "ouch!" Too cute. Toby was kind and patient and by the end of this session he was an absolute pro at holding her face in his hands. Moments like this make these sessions so much fun. Their wedding was beautiful! And really, have to say, hats off to Steph for being such a trooper. By the time we shot just the two of them, we had wind, snow, rain... and it didn't want to leave. I'm always flattered when they come all the way from Salt Lake to be photographed and in the drizzling rain, nonetheless. Thank heavens it didn't downpour! it was one of those mornings where i woke up to the first dusting of snow and thought..."it's got to be beautiful up there". i can see the mountains from my bedroom window and it's a place i look to often. up there is where i feel most like myself. i feel like i can breathe again. it feels like home. i could spend many hours just watching the water trickle down the canyon or listening to the aspen trees swaying in the wind...it's one of my favorite sounds. i think it's the little things in life that bring me the most joy. (besides family, of course).
i was hoping to make my way up to Sundance but didn't realize they had closed off the Alpine Loop. i guess i'll save that for another day. for now...this will have to do.

i remember four years back when we were sitting at church and she sat a few rows ahead of us. she would always get up and come give my oldest girl a hug and it made her day, her week, her year. that's just Steph. Always making sure everyone around her feels loved. i can't believe i am photographing her in her wedding dress. where does the time go? steph, you are truly beautiful in every way.

today was my grandmother's 95th birthday!!! We spent the day in Logan celebrating the day with her and her sweet twin brother Ingar. This lady is something special to me. i lived in her home my junior and senior year of high school. she is so fun and spunky. she is classy and can play a mean hand of cards. i look forward to spending a lifetime with her on the other side when she is young and free of the burdens of old age.
i am so blessed to have two wonderful grandmothers. both so full of personality and warmth. i am very blessed indeed. love you grandma.

Okay, don't laugh at my makeshift headband. I received a package from Anthropologie and it came in a box with this band wrapped around it. I couldn't throw it away. I loved the colors and well, the whole thing :) So, of course I had to include it in a shoot. Annie is my buddy, my friend, my helper and one of my most favorite people in the world. I miss her when she's not home with me. The other day, a friend called her to play. She opened the front door and looked back and said, "will you be okay home alone if I go and play?" She is so thoughtful. Love this girl.

They met in college and how could they not. I'm sure they both saw those amazing smiles that they each posses from miles away.
I can't tell you how much fun they were to be with. We laughed the entire time. I feel a connection to these two. I cannot wait until their wedding in April.
Can you believe the day started out with sunny skies and mild winds and then, um yes... it started to snow just as we started to shoot. We shot anyway.

I missed getting pictures of her when she turned four because it was in the middle of winter.

this is my big brother, and what a nice guy he is. my favorite story of him i like to tell, is when i was in high school, at a new school, i decided to try out for the cheer squad (not something i readily like to admit). i was standing there in the gym, a complete basket case, nerves shot, and i looked out in the sea of faces and there was my big brother, smack dab in center court with a handful of friends screaming my name and cheering me on. he gave me the courage not once but many times to accomplish my dreams. i love this guy. and girls... he is single :).
